LIFESTYLE: Why everyone should love a black cat

Black Cat

Black Cat

Today we are celebrating a birthday.
It's my cat's third birthday.

Yes I am aware that this is a slightly sad statement to make, but anyone that knows me knows how much I love cats, especially my two, and in particular, my Archimedes.

He is a black Bengal-cross. He is a little night jaguar. He is stealthy, fast, agile and sleek.
He can be totally evil.
But he is also one of the most loving cats I've ever known.

It's a fact that rescue homes have trouble re-homing black cats because people are superstitious and think they will bring them bad luck. But I love my witches cat.

He chirps at us in the middle of the night when he knows we're awake.
He cuddles up to me at night and in the early morning for cuddles and kisses (ok he licks my face - yes it is weird and slightly painful, but I know he means well).
He lays on top of laptops and keyboards - especially when they are being used.
He loves a good box.
He can and will jump as far and as high as he possible can.
He does attempt to trip us up when we pop to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
He licks his empty food bowl to hint he wants biscuits.
He gives paw on request.
He has the biggest ears I've ever seen on a domestic cat.
And he is the best cat in the world.

Happy Birthday to my little bundle of fluff!

  1. Aw, he's gorgeous! I have two black cats and it annoys me so much when people say they don't want black cats because they're "boring" compared to the stripey ones or the ginger ones - those people aren't looking hard enough!

    Happy birthday, Archimedes!

  3. Aww what a cutie indeed and happy birthday to him too! My parents have a black cat but she's super super timid and rarely socializes poor thing.
