Books from my childhood

Reading has always been a huge part of my life, and a really big part of my childhood and growing up. I can't tell you how many hours I spent in the local library, or how many books I borrowed from there over the years.
With Henry, I also want it to be a big part of his childhood. We've already started his collection of books for his library, which to be honest is a quite enviable collection.

With this post I wanted to share some of my favourite stories from when I was little. Books that have followed me for the last 26 odd years, and moved home with me for the last eight years. Books that I want to share and love with my little boy, and any other future children I have.

The Worst Witch
This series is one of my favourites. The drawings are so lovely and simple. I literally wanted to be a witch based purely on these books.

The Secret Garden
A classic and probably my favourite ever. Living in the country there was lots of woodland and outside space so this book really spoke to me. My dream was to have a big house with a big garden and my very own secret garden when I grew up. I'm still working on it!

The Snow Queen
I love love love The Snow Queen. It's such a great fairytale. Dann bought me the most beautiful book filled with Hans Christian Anderson classic fairytales which includes this story and I'm so excited to revisit the story with Henry when he is older.

The World of Peter Rabbit
These are probably my favourite books that I own. They are as old as me and hold a lot of sentimental value. My mum wouldn't let me read these on my own as she wanted them to be kept in good condition, and I'm so glad she had that rule as the books themselves are in near perfect condition. Jemima Puddleduck has to be my fave - one day she'll be added as a tattoo to my leg I think!

His Dark Materials
I literally adore Philip Pullman books. They're so utterly magical and beautiful. I'm a little gutted I no longer own copies of these books - I gave away a lot of books when I was younger, and borrowed even more from the library. But I will be buying these again because I need them in my life!

Harry Potter
This is probably a collection that almost all 20 somethings would include in their favourite books. Again, I don't have my original copies, but I'm hoping to get them again this year! I actually have never read books six and seven so I really need to rectify that!

So there's my favourite books from my childhood.
What are your favourite books from when you were growing up - leave yours in the comments below.

  1. Eee I have the exact same Beatrix Potter books from when I was a little one. Books have never been as good as they were when we were young. The secret garden is a fave of mine too as well as the Puppy Patrol books by Jenny Dale.
    Lovely post!

    1. Aww that's so cool. You're totally right. We're currently collecting all our old favourites for Henry!! Xx
