Winter baby skin tips with Water Wipes

October 27, 2016

Baby it’s cold outside! And although I love it, but my skin, and Henry’s skin doesn’t.

My skin always dries out that little bit quicker in the winter, and I suffer really badly from chapped lips, so I’m on the lookout and doing my research, to make sure Henry doesn’t follow suit, and if he does, the most natural way to look after his super soft and delicate baby skin.

Water Wipes* are the World’s purest baby wipe, containing only two ingredients; 99.9%water and 0.01% fruit extracts, meaning they are as gentle to a baby as cotton wool and water – perfect for the harsh UK winter months coming up.

With Henry soon to be weaning, baby wipes are kind of a necessity in our house. Although we usually select unfragranced and sensitive wipes, these wipes really put a worrisome mums mind at ease as they are so natural.

With winter coming up fast, we’re even more conscious of what we’re putting on Henry’s skin as the cold air, and the heat from radiators is known to affect my skin, so we’re really focused on preventing the same thing happening to Henry. Baby’s skin is thinner and more sensitive, so the more natural and chemical-free you can get, the better.

So far we’re loving them. We’re extra lucky that so far Henry hasn’t had too many skin problems, including minimal nappy rash, apart from his baby acne when he was born. But I’m feeling so much more confident about caring for his skin.

With a little help from Water Wipes, I’m sharing a few tips for caring for your babys skin this winter.

Caring for baby’s skin in winter

Michelle Comrie, midwife at Southampton Princess Anne Hospital offers the following advice:

When bathing your baby, ensure the temperature of the room is warm to begin with and avoid hot baths as they can dry your baby’s skin. Try and limit them to five to 10 minutes

Be generous when moisturising your baby using a hypo-allergenic emollient to maintain and protect the natural skin barrier. Coconut oil has also been shown to be an effective natural moisturiser with emollient properties*

Between bathing, remember to regularly clean baby dribble or spit up from their neck area and keep this area dry to avoid ‘dribble rash’. Opt for a chemical free baby wipe, such as WaterWipes, made from purified water and grapefruit seed extract, which is renowned for being a natural skin conditioner.

Your baby is also much more likely to suffer from dry, chapped lips or sore cheeks as their skin is thinner. Try rubbing a small amount of coconut oil on the baby’s face and lips before going outdoors and try and limit the time they spend outdoors when it’s especially cold.

You can pick up Water Wipes for just £2.49 per pack from Boots, and major supermarkets

I've been looking into what wipes will be best for my little one once he arrives and I think these water wipes are ticking all my boxes!I used to work in the cosmetics industry and the company I worked for used grapefruit seed extract in so many skin products, because it's such a gentle but effective ingredient! I personally love it too and my current toner is based with grapefruit and tea tree.I'm off to purchase some water wipes haha, thank you for sharing such an informative post! x
