Haddock Linguine from Gousto

Getting new food ideas with a little one can be really hard work, and to be honest, with full time mothering and running a house, plus the prospect of going back to work looming, finding new recipes and dinner ideas is pretty low on the agenda. 

We’ve always been interested in trying out a food subscription box for meals, so we tried out Gousto* last month, and we’ve been super impressed with the dishes we tried!

I decided to choose two fish dishes as we don’t tend to eat a lot of fish at home purely because it can be quite pricey. For each box you select two meals, and all the ingredients you need are delivered to your door. We had them delivered on a Friday, perfect for the weekend – so now take-aways!! 

All the ingredients come individually packed and in the correct measurements ready for you to get going straight away. 

Our first dish was the Spicy Haddock Linguine:


200g haddock bites

1 garlic clove

200g linguine

125g cherry tomatoes

1/2 tsp fiery chilli flakes

5g fresh chives

40g Cornish clotted cream

1 tbsp Shaoxing wine

1 tbsp rich tomato paste

How to:

Boil a kettle

Heat alarge, wide-based pan with olive oil on a high heat. 

Pat the haddock dry with kitchen towel and season with salt and pepper. 

Once hot, add them to the pan and cook for 1-2 minutes, turning halfway. Put fish to one side and keep the pan for later.

Meanwhile cook the linguine for 8-10 minutes so it has a slight bite to it. 

Peel and finely chop the garlic, and halve the tomatoes. 

Return the pan to the heat, adding the garlic and chilli flakes and cook for 1 minute. Add the tomatoes with a generous pinch of salt and cook for 2 minutes. 

Meanwhile combine the tomato paste with 200ml of boiled water. 

Chop the chives finely. 

Add the Shaoxing wine to the pan and cook for 30 seconds, then add the tomato paste water. Cook for 5-7 minutes until its reduced to a pasta sauce consistency. 

Season with salt and pepper and remove from the heat. 

Stir through the clotted cream and half of the chives. 

Add the drained linguine and haddock pieces and mix together. Serve with the left over chives on top! 

We absolutely loved this dish and will DEFINITELY be replicating it at home – I’ll add notes to this post as and when we do so you can try it too if you don’t have these ingredients. 

As for Gousto, yes we loved it. The concept is amazing, and the recipe selection really diverse. I think these boxes would be amazing for straight after a holiday when the fridge is bare and the idea of thinking up a meal is just too much to handle. They’d also be perfect for over the bank holiday as a little treat, and they;re far healthier than a Friday night take out.
