Summer loving with Turtle Bay

Is there anything more in keeping with summer than spicy food and cocktails? No I don't think so either! 
Luckily for us Southampton is filled with amazing food places and cocktail menus galore, which mixed with the brilliant parks and lots of outside seating, we're set for a really good summer (weather permitting of course).

To start off our love affair with the summer food we were invited to Turtle Bay* in Southampton's Guildhall Square to try out some of their new summer additions, and man were we impressed!

We started off with some Caribbean soft drinks - Ginger Beer for Dann and an Elderflower Cooler for me. They were both so refreshing and the perfect accompaniments for a spicy meal. However if you're into your cocktails, they are incredibly popular, especially between 4pm and 7pm. There was a lot of people in for drinks which just proves their popularity! 

For our starters we chose the crispy chilli squid (because duhhh,we love squid) and the Okra ladies fingers. We  also added the Trini Watermelon Chow which was meant to be for Henry, but he preferred the Okra. But we were both OK with that as the chow is kind of incredible and we're definitely going to be making our own at home because it is perfectly refreshing, and great on the side of a hot dish. 

Our mains were:
Me: Jerk Sirloin Steak with sweet potato fries for Henry and a coconut jerk glaze - my favourite as it's a more creamy spiced sauce for your steak. Personally Turtle Bay do some of the best steaks going. This might be a lot due to the glaze used, but I really do enjoy them more than anywhere else.
Dann: Bajan Beef Cheeks. He's a huge fan of the Turtle Bay one pots and will always go for them over anything else. 

For dessert we finished with:
Me: Passion Pie. If you know me well you'll know that lemon meringue pie is one of my favourite puddings so this passion-fruit variation was right up my street. I do wish it had come with some coconut ice cream too though! 
Dann: Rum and Raisin Bread Pudding. Dann loves rum and raisin anything so this was an obvious choice for him. They make it fresh each morning and is the personal recommendation of the manager who was on shift that evening. Again, this could have done with some sort of extra sauce, as Dann lost most of his ice cream to Henry - though this is obviously more our fault than the restaurants! 

Playing peek-a-boo with the tea towel serviettes whilst waiting for dessert, because,well, why not!! 

So are we summer ready? Oh yes we are. 
Turtle Bay have the perfect summer menu, filled with jerk and cocktails, plus yummy salads and lunch options too. Plus being in Guildhall Square, their outside seating is hugely popular. 

Roll on summer and feeling like we're in the Caribbean in Southampton.
