A home away from home – Room2 Hometel

Review Post*

I think travel is so important for families and can be such a great experience for everyone involved.
But it can also be a very stressful experience, especially for parents.

One of the key factors of any part of travel is where you stay. Where are you going to rest your head at right, and wake up in the mornings. Your base location. For families, it’s vital to have a safe, secure and homely environment, to help create a stress-free trip or break.

And let’s be honest. The traditional hotel just doesn’t cut it 90% of the time. You see parents hiding in the bathroom whilst their kids settle down for the night. Or limited space because the cot or trundle bed have taken over half the room. And to be frank, most of them really don’t look amazing. They’re pretty generic with rules on what you can and can’t have in the rooms, and limited additional facilities.

So when Room2 got in touch with their brand new concept, and invited me to their launch event*, I knew I had to go and get the down-low, because this has family travel sorted.

Room2 is the world’s first Hometel (Home Hotel) which takes the concept of hotels and brings in everything you need to feel at home. It’s comfortable, stylish and entirely functional. Perfect for families, the insta-lovers, couples and business people. Set just outside the main city, with 71 bedrooms,  and literal minutes from Southampton’s Oxford Street it’s going to be the new in place to sleep and stay. And it’s very convenient for the city docks and cruise terminals too.

The rooms are 30% larger than a standard hotel room, with different designs for every hotel room purpose. For couples looking for a quiet retreat, there’s the Den rooms, starting at £89 per night. For business over pleasure, there’s the Study rooms which include a dedicated work desk, from £99 per night. For a longer and more spacious stay, there are the Lounge and the Lounge Loft (£99 and £140 per night respectively) which include kitchens and dining space. Or for even more space, try the Master or Master Loft rooms (£110 and £155 per night respectively). My favourite feature has to be in the Loft Rooms which both include a mini loft filled with a futon, perfect for the little ones to sleep in, or you can use it as a great place for the kids to play.

As you can see from the photos, style and comfort is at the forefront of the bedroom designs, and I have to admit, they are some of the nicest bedrooms I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting within a “hotel”. We went on a treasure hunt around Room2 and got to see a mix of all the rooms on offer, and they are all so beautiful and well thought out, with a mix of park and city views.

However, our evening started in the Living Room, which combines Cafe, Bar, Dining and Pantry in one very good-looking space. Personally, I think the Pantry is a genius idea, especially for families. Every holiday or mini break we’ve taken has involved some sort of mini shop for supplies for Henry, and having a Pantry on site with essentials including baby food pouches, drinks, and larder items, that all can be taken up to your room to be cooked and eaten is a major selling point for parents. And if you are having a tough day, and don’t fancy company or cooking, the team are quite happy to bring your Deliveroo order up to your room too! And that’s a win for everyone!

Room2 also offers 24hr and mobile check in, so you can arrive at your convenience, and maybe not wake the kids, plus you have the room for a full 24hours. Check in and out is at 2pm! They also offer an onsite gym, as well as a laundry service, and secure parking, which is a must in the city centre (this is charged at an additional £15 per night).

Basically, Room2 is your home from home. It’s a dream come true for families, whether you’re staying for a day or a week. And with Southampton getting busier and dare I say it trendier, Room2 is going to be THE place to stay.
And luckily for me, I’ll be staying myself this year as I won a little competition on the night to stay for two nights, and you can bet I am going to be putting it to the test once baby boy has vacated!! I feel a birthday treat is on the cards!

Room2 is now open and taking bookings, with 10% off for members.
